No. 255 - Austin, Dreaming in Minerals

Sitting in a coffee shop in Austin

UT Tower across the street

Students stroll by in orange sweaters

There’s a vibe … hard to explain (but I’m a writer)

ethe· re· al [adj]

It’s why I come to Austin (business too)

There’s a soul beneath the city

Maybe an ancient Indian burial ground, trapped in soil, dreaming in minerals

Maybe I’m drowning in nostalgia

     For simpler times

When our television had five channels

     Wearing ties to Sunday school

Summers in Jackson Hole with my brother

My dream was fathered in Austin

What was once fragile, a delicate vision, fueled by reckless ambition … is real

Deep breath, chest inflates

Nineteen second exhalation

Confusion and gratitude

     I needn’t an explanation

I hope Austin never makes sense
