No. 244 - Poor Man’s Game Notes XV: UGA vs. Oklahoma, 9/26/26
I'm coming to you from Deer Valley, high atop the Wasatch Mountains in Utah, where I just wrapped up a bowl of chili at The Sticky Wicket. If you're not familiar, it's akin to having a chili dog at The Varsity—or, in the parlance of this Kirby epoch, a blowout in Fayetteville. Some things go hand in hand.
But before I had a bowl of beans and turkey, I was taking part in a not-so-athletic outdoor passion of mine—off-season ski lift riding. Yup, you read that right. I'm a connoisseur of cable carriage rides. Meandering through the Rockies without breaking a sweat is my kind of thrill seeking.
While everyone else is huffing and puffing on mountain bikes, I take in the view with a resting heart rate. And I'm not above smoking a cigar either.
That said, ski lift riding has its perils. I was several hundred feet away from the lodge, watching a jam band play the Beerfest stage below, when the lift abruptly stopped — safety bar up, dangling, nothing between me and open air. I could've fallen to my death.
Not really. I could've broken an ankle, tops.
I guess you could say I'm sleep-walking through the Rockies, which is exactly what our Dawgs have been doing through two cupcakes and one dumpster fire. When do we see a real ball game? Alabama, maybe. Ole Miss, definitely.
We can easily go 12-0, which brings me as much joy as an afternoon of ski lifts and chili.
